A California "Marijuana Policy Reform" Initiative (#14-0002) was submitted to the Office of the Attorney General of California, where it awaited a ballot title and a ballot summary prior to being approved for circulation as a contender for the November 4, 2014, ballot. It was an initiated state statute. However, the measure was withdrawn by sponsor Ed Rosenthal on February 18, 2014.[1]
Supporters of the initiative referred to it as the "Cannabis Policy Reform Act."
Path to the ballot
- Ed Rosenthal submitted a letter requesting a title and summary on January 6, 2014.
- A title and summary were to be issued by California's attorney general's office no later than February 27, 2014.
- Once the title and summary are prepared, 504,760 valid signatures would have been required for qualification purposes.
- Supporters would have had 150 days from the date that the title and summary were issued to collect the required signatures.
On February 18, 2014, Ed Rosenthal withdrew the initiative from consideration and said he would back a "winnable" initiative in 2016.[1]
